About

I was nominated to the U.S. Air Force Academy by Senator Barry Goldwater (R-AZ), and graduated in 1984. Senator Goldwater was concerned about our individual liberties as guaranteed in the Constitution and believed that we had surrendered too many of our freedoms to already the federal establishment.

At the U.S. Air Force Academy graduation ceremony in 1984, I had the honor of meeting President Ronald Reagan. “President Reagan was a great leader, whom I admired and deeply respected.”

I completed U.S. Air Force Pilot Training in 1985, and received the “Distinguished Academic Graduate” award. I flew the Cessna T-37 and Northrop T-38 Talon jets, and scored six perfect Q-1 checkrides.

As an aircraft commander in the Lockheed C-130E/H “Hercules” aircraft, I led aircrews on tactical airlift missions world-wide. I was selected to fly the top-secret, multi-million dollar EC-130H electronic-jamming aircraft at Davis-Monthan AFB.

When Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait on August 2nd 1990, I was the first in my unit to deploy to Operation Desert Shield, to defend Saudi Arabia from invasion by Iraq. I was selected due to my leadership, and flew our first mission against Iraq. Following Desert Storm, I received an Honorable Discharge from the USAF in October 1991.

In 1992, I earned a Masters of Business Administration degree from the University of Phoenix and began a successful second career in business management. I have worked for GDS, Sony, SealCorp, Covad Communications, VeriSign, and as a consultant, and have held senior executive positions such as General Manager and Vice President for National Sales. My hard work in the business world yielded financial success, which enabled me to volunteer and fight for our Liberty.

My desire to return to the Rocky Mountains brought me to Fort Collins in 2006. I believe in serving my community, and was on the Larimer County Citizen Corps board. I am a CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) trained member, and worked with the Larimer County Sheriff’s office, Loveland Fire, and Fort Collins Emergency Manager.

I have served on the Larimer County Republican Executive board, and am a District Captain. I have worked on several Republican political campaigns, and actively champion traditional values of life, individual liberty, small government, and low taxes.

God has truly blessed me with a wonderful family. My parents, Carl Sr. and Anna Mae, celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary in March. I have two older sisters, Diana and Carla, and a younger brother, Hans. My nephew Nick is married to a lovely lady named Erin. My niece Kendra married Russ this May in Phoenix. And my niece Rebecca was crowned “Miss Scottsdale”, and is competing for “Miss Arizona”.

At the Republican County Assembly on April 3rd, I was honored to receive your vote as “Your Constitutional Sheriff”, and am on the primary ballot. Our campaign was recently mentioned in an article by the Associated Press, and I was interviewed on Fox News radio!

“Like 12 years ago, when Larimer County gun owners banded together to elect Jim Alderden as Sheriff, they’re banding together right now to elect Bruning,” said Dudley Brown with Rocky Mountain Gun Owners PAC. “Carl Bruning will be the kind of Sheriff Republicans can be proud of and will support for years to come.” Thanks for your support!
